首先翻译下前半句：

GMAT中比较的最高要求是逻辑一致，其次才是格式或形式一致。这题中，一开始用like引出比较的一方面对象grassy fields and old pastures，都是名词.
然后看各个选项比较的对象：
- 选项D和E比较的对象是sandpipers’ vanishing。即把两个名词事物和一个动作性的doing比较，显然逻辑错误。
- 选项C，比较对象是that引导的从句，显然逻辑和形式都不一致。
- 只有选项A和B比较的对象是sandpipers。

再看A和B。

A. the sandpipers vanishing in the northeastern United States is a result of residential and industrial development and of changes in
这句话的意思翻译过来就是：消失在美国东北部的sandpipe是由于...的结果。
结合前半句，并除掉修饰性的成分，句子的主干成了：
"like grassy fields and old pastures, sandpipe is a result of ...“可以发现句子根本没有说like的内容是什么。

再看B。

结合前半句变成了，并除掉修饰性的成分，句子的主干成了：
"like grassy fields and old pastures, sandpipe is vanishing as a result of ...“可以发现句子内容很清晰，即grassy fields 和old pastures跟sandpipe相似点都是is vanishing，且原因都是...。
