Harvard Business School Deadlines 2010-2011

The Harvard Business School deadlines for the 2010-2011 admissions cycle have been announced.  The deadlines for the three rounds of the MBA program are as follows:

Round 1
Deadline: October 1, 2010
Notification: December 14, 2010

Round 2
Deadline: January 11, 2011
Notification: March 29, 2011

Round 3
Deadline: TBD*
Notification: TBD*

All applications are due by 12:00 p.m. EST on the day of each deadline.

Please note that each "round" represents a distinct period in which you may apply, not a succession of steps for your application. You may apply in one round only, one time in an application year.

Given past experience, we anticipate that many candidates will submit their online application materials very close to 12 noon on submission deadline dates. To avoid heavy server traffic and potential delays, we encourage candidates to submit application materials as early as possible.

Applications received after 12 noon on October 1, 2010 will be considered in Round 2. Applications received after 12 noon on January 11, 2011 will be considered in Round 3. Applications received after 12 noon on March 31, 2011 will not be considered.

Joint program applicants for the Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Harvard Law School, and Harvard Kennedy School must provide an additional essay.

Essays:
What are your three most substantial accomplishments and why do you view them as such? (600-word limit)
What have you learned from a mistake? (400-word limit)
Please respond to two of the following (400-word limit each):
What would you like the MBA Admissions Board to know about your undergraduate academic experience?

When you join the HBS Class of 2013, how will you introduce yourself to your new classmates?
Joint degree applicants:
How do you expect the joint degree experience to benefit you on both a professional and a personal level? (400-word limit)
Recommender Questions for the Class of 2013

Admissions Requirements
Columbia Business School selects applicants from varied business and other backgrounds who have the potential to become successful global leaders. The Admissions Committee seeks to develop a thorough understanding of each applicant before rendering a decision.

We assess candidates in three basic areas:

Academic Strength
The committee values academic performance and seeks candidates who demonstrate superior intellectual ability.
Professional Promise
Close attention is paid to each applicant’s professional accomplishments, as well as to his or her professional ambitions. The committee seeks applicants who have developed a strong foundation and / or essential skills for their future professional goals.
Personal Characteristics
The committee seeks to enroll individuals of strong character who have proven themselves as both leaders and team players. They look for applicants who are well rounded and interesting and who have demonstrated the will and ability to actively contribute to the well-being of their community.
The Admissions Committee seeks to select a group of people representing an extraordinary variety of professions, nationalities, ethnicities, and personal interests.

Columbia Business School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, nationality, sexual orientation, political affiliation, disability, or veteran status.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). (Please review our associated guidelines).
International students whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). You may be exempted from the TOEFL if you have earned a degree from an institution based in a country in which English is the primary official language and at which the official language of instruction is English.
Interviews
Interviews are not required for admission to Columbia Business School. Once the Admissions Office receives a complete application, a prospective student may be invited to interview. Conducted by alumni and current students who are members of the Columbia Business School Ambassadors program, these interviews are offered around the globe. Interviews are by invitation only and cannot be requested.

Pre-Enrollment Requirements
Prior to actual enrollment you will be required to complete and pass the PreMBA online course. It is designed to facilitate your reentry into academic life by refreshing and introducing you to concepts required in the demanding core and orientation curricula. Several deliverables, which are prerequisites for matriculation, will be due approximately one month prior to orientation. It is estimated that these deliverables will take 25-40 hours to complete, depending upon your background.

All students are expected to arrive on time and attend the entire orientation program. Any incoming student who cannot meet this expectation will forfeit his or her place in the class.

Essays
Applicant Essays : Answer all 3 essay questions.

Today, companies must navigate through complex and interdependent issues. They must deal with health and security matters, environmental impact questions, and diversity and cultural concerns. Leaders need adaptability, imagination, emotional intelligence, and business acumen. Thus, Duke is in the midst of an ambitious global venture that will embed and connect us around the world, and we are seeking future leaders of consequence, who value diversity and collaborative leadership, and who aspire to impact the companies and communities of which they are a part in a lasting and positive way.

In an effort to identify, engage, and foster the development of future leaders of consequence, the Admissions Committee would like to get to know our applicants in a more holistic manner. We would like to know who you are, what has shaped you into the person you are today, and how you hope to impact both Duke and the communities of which you will be a part in the future. The essays are your opportunity to convey that to us. Please be open, genuine, and passionate. Share with us what makes you a dynamic, multi-dimensional person.

1.Describe your vision for your career and your inspiration for pursuing this career path.

2.How will your background, values, and non-work activities enhance the experience of other Duke MBA students and add value to Fuqua's diverse culture?

3.Why Duke? (If you are interested in a specific concentration, joint degree, clubs or activities, please discuss how you would contribute to these in this essay.)

Optional Essay (not required)

If you feel there are extenuating circumstances of which the Admissions Committee should be aware, please explain them here (e.g., unexplained gaps in work, choice of recommenders, inconsistent or questionable academic performance, significant weakness in your application).

Re-applicant Essay

All re-applicants are required to complete the Re-applicant Essay. Please limit your response to two pages. Write an essay describing how you are now a stronger candidate for admission compared to the application you submitted the previous year.
