求助date的用法

A. 1954 is sometimes given as the date of the technique of the invention, when sb do sth ..., sb do sth ...

B. The technique of the invention is sometimes dated to 1954, 后面与A一样.

到底date是不是只能使date at/from/on 1954. 不能说date to 1954? date to什么用法呢？
