大家看看这个those的用法对吗？

这道题出自OG VERBAL2：85.According to a study by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, companies in the United States are providing job training and general education for nearly eight million people, about equivalent to the enrollment of the nation’s four-year colleges and universities.
(A)    equivalent to the enrollment of
(B)    the equivalent of those enrolled in
(C)    equal to those who are enrolled in
(D)    as many as the enrollment of
(E)    as many as are enrolled in
这道题我有三个问题：         
1.我感觉BC选项中的those的用法不对，算是裸奔了，正确的用法应该是those people，后面再加修饰语，但是OG的解释都没有提到those用法不对。--我好像把that/those与this/these搞混淆了，看了manhattanSC，是this/these不能裸奔，必须要加名词。
2.这道题我读第一遍时，没有发现是考比较的题，因为about的出现，请问about as many as 这是什么成分啊？
3.比较的又是什么啊？nearly eight million people做的成分是宾语吧，但是are enrolled in感觉又是在比较主语，不懂了？请大家指教！

个人见解：
1 those我觉得没啥错，就是指people，不需要those people，those people这里的those不是做代词 ...

3.比较的成分可以算比较的宾语吗？
正确答案as many as are enrolled in,从哪里看得出来are enrolled in是比较的数量啊？
省略又为什么能省略主语呢？
