介宾短语比较 VS 状语比较 摘自PREP和白勇语法 有点疑问

主语若相同，可省，但助动词不能省。如：

As a result of the continuing decline in the birth rate, [fewer people] will enter the labor force [in the 1980’s] than (few people
省略)did [in the 1960’s and 1970’s], a twenty-year period during which people born after the war swelled the ranks of workers.

白勇语法和MANHATTAN
比较从句的主语和谓语与主句的主语和谓语相同时，可以全部省去，常常保留做状语的介词短语或状语从句

上面两个说法会不会矛盾了呢？按白勇语法的话 上面那个句子的 did是不是应该可以省略啊？

不矛盾，因为前面的谓语是will enter，后面是过去式，时态不一样，当然谓语就不相同，如果省略还原就成了th ...

按照Manhattan的说法，did也不行，因为前面没出现过entered这一词。
