A normal
B is normal
C was normal
D they normally are
E they are normally

the answer is B, why not A ??

是不是选项a有跟自身比较的嫌疑，而此处是跟average insect (normal insect)比，为避免歧义？

It seems you are taller today than normal.
==>It seems you are taller today than you normally are.
对吗？

A grasshopper is larger than （the insect）is normal...
有点牵强的说，真搞

一般来将，系动词的补出使句子意思更加清晰。
在本题目中，不补出，则意思有可能是在grasshopper中，特别大个的一个。补出了，就明确了normal member of insect class
