偶觉得A可以啊，flames与ignition并列都做make的宾语，而且都是make＋N.+adj.结构，为什么A不对？

b)so profound that many young Americans  cannot imagine, much less  remember)
为什么are not able to---> cannot imagine;even less to remember---> much less  remember? much less  remember是什么含义?

2 A不对，因为即使看成make的并列结构，也应该用make flames spread.
3.much less固定搭配，更不用说。

如果是make的并列的话，那么应该是 much easier 和more quickly并列，没有问题；
ignition和flames spreading并列：形式不对称。

so...that is preferrable. Moreover, "be albe to" emphasizes the capabilities of an entity. You can tell the differences from the two sentences below:

a):John is not able to surf because he doesn't even know how.
b):John can't surf today since he is terribly sick.

第一题中选项A的spreading修饰有歧义，它可能会修饰其前面的名词flames，而且造成表达的对称性受到破坏，因此不好。
