B. on the ground of avoiding duplicated facilities alone.
C. solely in that duplicated facilities should be avoided
D. while the duplication of facilities should be avoided
E. if only because the duplication of facilities should be avoided .

I initially picked up C as the An, but wrong , then altered to A, guessed , not right again .....the CORRECR is E ......why ?? It makes nonsense to me ........

我觉得A和B的alone用得不好，因为alone变成修饰前面的名词了，而句子的意思应该是修饰整个句子，即这个原因的
C也不好，因为它的主语变成了facilities，而facilities是不可以被避免的，逻辑关系不对，应该是duplication 被avoided

这道题如从三方面加以综合考虑，则做题巨快也！！！
一是alone的修饰成分——修饰整个句子；
二是优先级关系：avoid >avoidance>avoiding；
三是Duplicate充当“免”逻辑对象；
四是商业用语，in that 是口语化。

不过，这道题实在
