(Appearing to be) the only candidate whose views would be acceptable to its membership, the Youth Canuous finally endorsed Gorge for city council.
A) Appearing to be
B)Seeming to be
C)Because he appeared to be
D) Because he seemed
E)Being
The answer is C,but I don't know why the choice A and B is not correct?
If the subject of the sentence WERE Gorge, A and B WOULD be right.
GMAC prefers "appear to be" to the sole "seem" in this context.
