当然是D
it在GMAT中，除了用作形式主语外，不可以引导一句句子
它如果出现的话，应该是代词，具体指代前面的一个名词

it 指代不明。

同意it不能指前面一句话，
另外went和was是不同的，went 强调动作，was强调状态。原句也是用went

举例，i became a teacher 和i was a teacher 是不能换的。

补充go在句中的一种用法：
go表示习惯于某种状态，如：Refugees often go hungry.
You'd better go armed while in the jungle.
这种用法是to be不能取代的。[em12]
