请问各位NN,为什么说B 中的 The modifier when they do appear is misplaced 呢?

B. An executive who is heavily committed to a course of action, especially one that worked well in the past, makes missing signs of incipient trouble or misinterpreting ones likely when they do appear.

首先那个especially one就不好，这个句子本想表达的意思是：【一个决策者，如果特别遵循一套既定解决方案，尤其是一套过去表现极好的解决方案，会怎样则样】

但B这么写，那个especially one that worked... 很容易把one当成指代executive的（因为语法上这俩平行，理论上可以指代的。），这是第一点不好。

第二个不好在于，makes missing signs or misinterpreting signs likely when they do appear. 这是一个复合平行 makes missing signs likely when they do appear和makes misinterpreting signs likely when they do appear.

问题是，前者不是正常的说法，要么就是【miss signs】，要么就是【出现时，被误解】。没有说【出现时，还miss掉的】

所以B的问题就在于这里。那个when they do appear位置有误。

可是E里when。。。的位置也是这样啊，为啥没错哩？

其实就是平行，你看B里or后面的misinterpreting ,是和missing一个等级的，但是E里面的却是和makes一个等级的，B里面这样使用会造成歧义，再看E里面的likely位置。E里将likely提前，将歧义消除了。OG里讲的很笼统，但是一个小的语法点可以牵扯出很多东西，比如说逻辑语感，修饰位置等等。OG是本自学的语法书。

那个misinterpret 应该是与miss平行的吧如果与make平行的话他的逻辑主语就变成了动名词being.........所以还是有疑惑啊为什么B中when的位置有问题呢顶

又刷了一遍og研究到这道题，同意浅浅e中misinterpret与miss平行，两者都为make an executive do sth中do的部分。但c与e不同的是：c的平行结构为“ miss signs of incipient trouble when they do appear ”和“misinterpret signs of incipient trouble when they do appear”；而e的平行结构为“miss signs of incipient trouble”和“misinterpret them when they do appear"。两者的不同在于or的位置。

此外，BAT大神对于B 的第一个缺陷解释貌似跟ron有冲突，ron解释的是E中的one，在下再次认为B&E中one的用法是一致的，具体解释如下：you have "a course of action, especially X"
therefore X must be something that's parallel to "a course of action"
i.e., it must be a NOUN/PRONOUN, and it must represent a course of action.

here, "one" stands for "a course of action", so that's good.

if you remove "one", that parallelism is destroyed and you are left with a sentence that doesn't make sense.
