1、impede 与diminish的意思是不一样的。而后者在本句中更符合逻辑意思。
2、possibility 的用法：possibility of 是对的。

impede 是阻碍的意思,阻碍可能性?中文有这么说的吗??

这里选E不选A的理由是不是因为A中的that前有个逗号，that不能修饰非限制从句？而不是出在pass上吧？我对比较中应补什么样的动词总搞不清楚。

这儿主要是因为the same ...as.的固定用法

lzm说过在the same...as中，as作为关系代词可和that互换，而且也看到过有the same...that的用法。

PS：这里选E不选A的理由是不是因为A中的that前有个逗号，that不能修饰非限制从句？

在所有的英语表达中
都没有the same...that 的
除非这个that是用来修饰same后面的东西，是从属关系
只有as后面的才能与之平行

书中解释道：此处用that和as可互换，指代时间状语in the same year

他的解释又不一定都对
我觉得这题的意思，可能是在同样的一年里，所强调的是the same year
而不是后面的内容，不是指和。。。一样
可能意思差不多，但是在语法表达上面有所侧重

OK，I'll try to explain it in a grammartical way.

as:可以用作关系代词,相当于THAT, WHO, WHICH ，常用于same 或 such的后面
eg:in the same building as my brother (from Webster's)
as在这种用法时，引导的是一个定语从句，可以和that 互换
比如说你举的例子
A letter by Mark Twain,written in the same year that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was pubished.

在其他更多的情况下，as用作连词
比如说你的问题里面
In its most recent approach, the comet Crommelin
passed the Earth at about the same distance and in
about the same position, some 25 degrees above the
horizon, that Halley's comet will pass the next time
it appears.

(A) that Halley's comet will pass
(B) that Halley's comet is to be passing
(C) as Halley's comet
(D) as will Halley's comet
(E) as Halley's comet will do
这儿as就不能和that互换

补出的动词和前面的一致
这儿是the comet Crommelin passed the Earth
后面的动词应该是will pass,当然用do 代替

猫头，princess，我知道the same year that为什么用了，今天听了白勇的网络课堂，正好说到the same as的用法，有只有一种例外，就是the same year that的用法。

其实，我觉得不要很相信某人说的，因为毕竟不是权威
在考试的时候还是要相信自己的判断能力，这样我想即使错了也不会太郁闷吧~~

What is "do" . Herein, "do" is conflicting with "will" .

Eg; He can run as fast as I can .

NOT: He can run as fast as I can do.
