The UIC College of Business Administration(CBA) is a major research-based institution located in the heart of Chicago that cultivates a spirit of entrepreneurship through real-world experience. Through its innovative curriculum, renowned faculty and commitment to experiential learning, the CBA advances its mission to create new knowledge, business, value and leaders for the global marketplace. Our location in one of the most vibrant business districts in the world allows many unique opportunities for our students. Our Executives in the Classroom course allows students to meet and learn from global leaders. Our Leadership Academy provides additional opportunities for students to interact with the global leaders in the Chicago area through the Executive’s Club where students attend bi-monthly meetings and have the opportunity to meet and network with top global CEOs and executives. The Academy also sponsors leadership workshops, conferences, and a guest lecture series where authors and relevant guest speakers are invited to discuss current topics. Being a world class university located in the world class city of Chicago provides tremendous experiential learning opportunities that are not available in other environments. Our Interdisciplinary Product Development course allows students to learn to work more effectively in cross functional teams. The course includes students and faculty from three colleges; business, art and architecture, and engineering along with corporate sponsors that work with the cross functional teams to provide a project that results in the research, conception, and development of innovative product design concepts. Other experiential learning opportunities with corporate partners include project courses in marketing communications, advertising, technology, entrepreneurship, small business consulting, and national business plan competitions. The integrative marketing communications course allows students to apply the theories they learn in the classroom in national contests and have resulted in several first place awards from the Department of Defense, Yellow Pages, Divine Chocolate, and PayPal competitions. Our specialized business and entrepreneurship residence halls and Innovation Center allow students to further their interests, skills, knowledge, and continue their experiential learning in a campus setting. Through our innovative and unique programming, our students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become the business leaders for Chicago and the world beyond.作者: s 时间: 2010-11-5 23:18

Students may participate in summer, semester, or year long academic experiences by selecting from more than 200 programs in over 50 countries on 6 continents. A Study Abroad experience helps to prepare students for the global economy in which they will work, and many programs also include an internship component, giving students an opportunity to gain valuable practical experience working in an international environment. Financial aid and scholarships are available for Study Abroad.
Volunteer work and community service opportunities:
Yes
Volunteer opportunities description:
The university works to create civically engaged students who understand the value of active community service and lifelong learning. Students can engage in organized service efforts ranging from alternative spring break service trips throughout the U.S., to mentoring/tutoring programs and Junior Achievement educational programs with youth from the Chicagoland area through the G.I.V.E. (Get Involved in Volunteer Experience) program. During the fall semester about 25% of the student body participated in community service or volunteer efforts. Many students volunteer with the Junior Achievement Program whose purpose is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business, and economics to improve their lives. Junior Achievement accomplishes this by using hands on experiences in the classroom to help young people understand the economics of life by bringing the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential and building skills in job success, professionalism, leadership, and self confidence. University students provided about 4000 hours of community service through Junior Achievement last year and made a difference in the lives of about 9500 urban youth.作者: s 时间: 2010-11-5 23:20

Career services provided for business majors:
The College of Business Undergraduate Career Center provides a full range of career services beginning in freshmen year. Career advisors instruct freshmen through a semester long First Year Experience course, introducing students to campus career preparation initiatives and familiarity with business professions. Students are assigned to a career advisor in freshman year and continue to meet with them through graduation and beyond. These advisors help students with career path planning, vocational assessment, information on job market trends, resume preparation, mock interviews, job and internship search strategies, salary negotiations, and internship credit . To ensure that our students are prepared to enter business professional environments, students attend a career preparation seminar, resume review, and a mock interview session. In addition, corporate partners and alumni provide career advice, resume critiques, and mock interviews. The Undergraduate Business Career Center partners with college departments and student professional organizations to host panel presentations and corporate information sessions. A Corporate Discovery Program provides an opportunity for students to visit local businesses. Alumni often host events providing lunch and a chance to network with business professionals. The opportunity to attend bi-monthly Executives’ Club of Chicago luncheons and breakfasts to assist in honing networking skills is available to business undergraduates through the career center. Career fairs and seminars are regularly held throughout the year offering students internship opportunities and information on permanent placement. The career center works directly with employers who post over 700 positions through the college’s NACElink site annually作者: s 时间: 2010-11-5 23:30

Being in Chicago we have so many resources and businesses close by. Local businesses seem to be happy to be involved with the campus and come to speak to students.
There are so many different types of people that come to UIC that you get a little of everything. Also, being so near to Chicago and the Financial District makes the atmosphere very business like.作者: s 时间: 2010-11-5 23:38
The program?s diversity makes it unique. Diversity in my business program encompasses not just race, but also age, religion, gender orientation, language, socioeconomic status, and many others.
The UIC CBA is mired in bureaucracy and high level administrators who are out of touch with students and don?t have the first clue, nor do they seem to care, about what would develop the program into modern progressive training ground for future business professionals作者: s 时间: 2010-11-5 23:43
The undergraduate business career center does a great job in communicating with students about internships and full-time job opportunities. Professors invite distinguished speakers such as lawyers, renowned company CEOs, and entrepreneurs who share their experience with students.
I?d swear that UIC?s most apparent goal is to produce ethical upstanding business student. In fact, I think they go overboard on the importance of the subject. However, I?ve spoken to individuals and witnessed actions that have forced me to acknowledge its importance作者: s 时间: 2010-11-5 23:44
The UIC business school has the perfect location being right next door to the Chicago Downtown Loop. It has the opportunity to work with some of the biggest corporations in the country. But this opportunity seems wasted as I have yet to notice the school relay any of its possible business contacts to its students. The accounting dept. seems to be the only aspect of the business school that is working hard to court the big firms and provide to them their most qualified students for internships.
Our school prepares us for the business world with the knowledge to keep us going. They provide internships and job fairs to spark our interest. In classes they tie in lessons relating to current events. Many professors bring in outside resources which are great for networking, activity, and a few chances to dip our hands into real world work.作者: s 时间: 2010-11-5 23:59
The one part that I?m disappointed with is that some instructors? communication skills are poor. Meaning that they are aware that English is not their second language and it?s difficult to understand them, making the class a blow off.
