C中的cooking 是名词还是做动词呢? 如很判断呢.我当时是认为cooking是动词,就选了C. C错在哪里呢?

我觉得C选项最主要的问题是 taking ... is done..
GMAT中 doing sth. is done 是一个非常笨拙的表达方式，是要避免的

unlike 应该加名词
没有+doing这种用法的

这里不是看动词还是名词，C后半句，doing sth is done没有这种用法。
A,B中unlike前后不对称
E不好是不够对称，前半句主语用the usage，后半句they (意图指代spices），两者逻辑上不对称，且前主动后被动
D，前半句whereas前后句子比较对称，所以选它。
