can I？could I？， may I？，might I？都可以用于现在时和将来时，其中can I？是最不正式的用法。

　　could I？是四种用法中最为普遍有用的一种。它既可用于正式的请求中，也可用于非正式的请求中。
　　may I？要比could I？稍为正式一些，但也通用于正式及非正式的请求中。
　　might I？与 may I？不同。它没有 may I？表现得那么自信。它表示比较胆怯，同时对回答比较没有把握。

　　否定疑问式 can't I？和couldn't I？用来表示说话的人希望能得到肯定的回答：

　　Can't I stay up till the end of the programme？
　　我不能一直呆到节目结束再去睡吗？
　　Couldn't I pay by cheque？
　　我可以用支票付款吧？
　　may和might不能这么用。

　　对于 can I？/could I？这种请求的回答通常是：

　　询问是否允许时，现在时用 can或 am/is/are allowed to；过去时用 could或 was/were allowed to：
