我也有同样问题：(C)contact with the latter directly through；和 (D) direct contact with the latter by means of,争取答案(D)把修饰through的副词搬到了contact的前面，把句义“直接通过”变成了“直接接触”，我记得有个原则好像是修饰程度的副词位置尽量不要变，尤其在改变句义的情况下。那位高人能再讲讲，会不会还有其他的问题？

关于horsefish所讲的原因，我在大全里找到一句反例，这里through是允许的，请大家讨论。

修饰词位置不能随意变动是建立在修饰词的修饰清晰无歧义基础上的,如果修饰词的修饰对象不清容易发生歧义,一般都要改变修饰词的位置.C中directly是副词,既可以往前修饰动词have (contact...),又可以往后修饰through,引起歧义(事实上,把修饰词放在主语和谓语中间或者是谓语和状语中间是ETS经常出的错误选项).把它放到contact之前就不会发生这种歧义了.

我怎么觉得这里就是应该用through表达通过。。途径/渠道的意思啊，不是表因果呢？

另外，既然前面的have contact 中的contact用的是名词，就不存在歧义问题，directly through一起修饰前面的动作

这么看来的话，D却改变了副词的位置改变了原句意思，而且by means of也没有through简洁。C似乎更好
