group的用法：
当组成group的人或物被看成是一个集合体时，应用单数谓语动词；当组成group的人或物被看成是一个一个的个体时，应用复数谓语动词。
如：The dance group is ready for rehearsal.
The group were divided in their sympathies.

a group of 和 the group of的结构都是成立的，其后用的动词单复数只与其表达的意思有关，而与哪一种结构无关。

补充GROUP的用法：
   当整体的意思较强时视为单数，强调个别的人时视为复数。
eg.A group of little girls was[were]playing in the park.

还有,麻烦斑竹能不能讲讲recommend 的用法,recommend that +虚拟语气可以吗?

在GMAT中的语法我不是很清楚，但是用我以前学的知识好象是在解释整体概念时谓语用单数，而如果是指每个人的话就用复数

应该要虚拟的吧

eg.The teacher recommended that we (should) readd the novel.=The teacher recommened us to read the novel.

确实没看出a group of lawers 和 the group of lawers，除了后者特指还有啥区别，偶觉得应用are。是不是tbs见过用is的？不妨将原句列示于此，讨论一下。
至于recommend that其后是一定要用should引导的虚拟语气的，可省should.

我是指RECOMMEND一般用+TO DO，不是指RECOMMEND THAT。
